Honeymoon in Sikkim
Honeymoon in Sikkim - Sikkim embraces you the moment you arrive in its serene environs. From daunting mountains to gushing waterfalls and peaceful monasteries, everything here will make you feel that the whole place is charged with the glory of God. Recognised for its inimitable charm, the place is a paradise for two people in love. The country's second smallest state, Sikkim shares borders with Nepal, Tibet and Bhutan. The state is entirely hilly. It has 28 mountain peaks, including Mt. Kanchenjunga, the third highest peak in the world. In addition, it has 227 high altitude lakes, 21 glaciers and some 100 rivers and streams.
It is the ideal place for romance with flower meadows, vibrant orchids and scenic valleys. Imagine nestling in the beauty of snow-capped mountains, amidst absolute peace and tranquility, with chirping birds and flitting butterflies. Another very interesting feature of this magical land is the fluttering Buddhist prayer flags against the green backdrop, which add color and variety to the environment.
The people of Sikkim are very peace loving and shy. They worship spirits of mountains, rivers and forests and so the crime rate in the state is one of the lowest in the country. Apart from Lepchas, who are believed to be the original inhabitants of Sikkim, Bhutias and Nepalese are also the leading communities in the state.
MG Marg in the capital city of Gangtok is the most happening place, with roads beautified with flowers, posh markets and even discotheques. Gurudongmar Lake in North is one of the highest lakes in the world. Situated at an altitude of 17,100ft, it is a sacred lake visited by many pilgrims every year. Perched at an elevation of 5500 ft in the South is Namchi, one of the less crowded towns in Sikkim. The natural beauty of Namchi simply takes you to another world. The main attraction, however, is the tallest statue of Guru Rinpoche in Samdruptse.
Nathu la pass, around 56km east of Gangtok, connects the State with China's Tibet Autonomous Region. It is one of the highest motorable roads in the world and is world famous for its trekking possibilities. Pelling in West offers mesmerising view of the snow-capped peaks of Kanchenjunga. The list is endless. As you honeymoon in Sikkim you see numerous local gardens, botanical parks and centuries-old monasteries.
Everything about Sikkim is so special and so refreshing. It connects you with nature. Sikkim reminds me of Henry David Thoreau's quote: Heaven is under our feet as well as over our heads.
